9 Percent Growth for Built-In Appliances over freestanding

This week, GfK has published a report on the growth of built-in and integrated appliances. The research group has found that the sector grew by 9% throughout 2013, surpassing the sales of freestanding kitchen appliances by nearly $800 million.

The popularity of built-in appliances has been on a steady incline for years, for a number of reasons:

Affordable Built-In Appliances
Years ago, there was a time when built-in kitchen appliances were much more expensive than their freestanding counterparts. Now, the price gap is closing, so more homeowners can afford to purchase built-in appliances like cookers, microwaves and dishwashers.

Improvement Projects
As the global economy begins to see some recovery, more homeowners are putting money back into their households. We are seeing plenty more home improvement projects and renovations which call for new kitchen appliances. Many homeowners opt for built-in appliances because they can help to increase the resale value of the property.

First-Time Buyers
The recovering economy has led to an increase in home sales among first-time buyers. Since built-in appliances are a major trend in kitchen design, it is no surprise that the influx of new homeowners are choosing to outfit their kitchens with integrated appliances.

Mix and Match Décor
Since UK kitchens are a ‘melting pot’ of European and American design
, homeowners approach kitchen décor with a mix-and-match method. So, has become quite popular for kitchens to use both freestanding and integrated appliances side-by-side.
