The same study found that those with dishwashers spent an average of just 10 minutes a day loading and unloading their dishwasher - that’s 50 minutes saved a day.

A dishwasher is able to maintain a water temperature of over 75 degrees Celsius. When washing by hand, the water temperature rarely exceeds 40 degrees.

How Much Does a Dishwasher Cost?
The cost of a new dishwasher can be as little as £200 (or less, in some cases) or as much as £1000 (or more). How much a dishwasher costs you is based on how much you’re willing to spend on it, but one thing that’s true of many dishwashers is that price does not necessarily equate to quality.
Some very pricey dishwashers have received poor reviews with models at half the price have performing far better.
Expensive dishwashers tend to boast more features, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re any better at cleaning. If you’re not too fussy about features, then you really just need a dishwasher from a reputable company that a) cleans your dishes and b) doesn’t break easily.

Will You Use a Dishwasher?
While many people can’t or won’t live without a dishwasher, not everyone will find them that useful.
Do you live alone or in a couple? If you do, then it might not be worth buying a dishwasher. Unless you regularly cook with lots of pots and pans it’ll take a while for you to get a full load (and running your dishwasher when it’s not full significantly reduces its energy efficiency).
Plus, if you’re only cleaning up after one or two people, using a dishwasher may actually take more time than washing up by hand. It takes roughly ten minutes to load and unload a small amount of washing up. It would probably also take you ten minutes to scrub them, dry them and put them away – and that’s not counting the time you have to wait for a dishwasher programme to finish.
Things change if you regularly entertain guests. When you’ve prepped and cooked for a large group you don’t want to spend more time and effort cleaning it up (and you don’t want to ask your guests to roll their sleeves up either!) In this case you’ll probably find a dishwasher to be invaluable.
