A design trend that has been around for quite some time is the vintage look. Vintage fashion and décor present timeless pieces in a modern setting. To give your kitchen a vintage makeover, textiles and surfaces will make a big difference and new appliances can go a long way to helping you achieve this look.
Fridge Freezers
Vintage fridge freezers are characterised by their rounded corners and metal handles. These tend to be quite difficult to come across nowadays, but many brands offer models that are similar in style. The CDA fridge freezer range is vast, so you will certainly find vintage style refrigeration to suit your tastes from this particular brand.
Taps
Vintage taps are always quite ornate, compared to modern taps that feature sharp lines and a minimalist design. For a vintage style tap, look for one with rounded features and cross head handles. The Astracast Camarague range is characteristically vintage. You may even want to look into taps that are finished in a colour other than silver. Astracast Camarague series of kitchen sink taps is available in bronze and nickel for an even more authentically vintage look.
These are certainly highly-stylised taps. So, if you are looking for a simpler option, Franke’s Venetian collection is a nice alternative with a similar vintage look.
Cooker Hoods
In the 1950s, there were not many styles of cookers. While you are certainly spoilt for choice with the wide range of cooker hood styles that are available today, the vintage look consists of a classic chimney or visor design. Look for a style with a wide awning, like the CDA ECH71SS cooker hood.
Cookers
Coloured cookers were hugely popular in the 1950s, but they may not be the best option in this day and age. From a practical perspective, colourful appliances may not be a great investment. If you move house or decide to change one aspect of the kitchen, the colour of the cooker may not suit the rest of the room.
If you want a vintage style cooker, you may have to let go of the sea foam green finish and invest in a stainless steel model. As such, it is the best to approach this from a stylistic perspective. For a cooker with an authentic vintage look, a model with multiple compartments and a gas hob is ideal.
Complete Vintage Makeover
For a total makeover, you will have to pair these vintage style appliances with the right wallpaper, curtains and accessories. There are plenty of shops that specialise in this aesthetic so it will not be difficult to find any appliances.
